Bhubaneswar, Apr 9:
Only 30 out of 552 apartments in Bhubaneswar, which had been served notices to submit reports of their water sample test by the Public Health Department (PHD) of Odisha by March 31, have complied with the order.
Among apartments that come directly under the PHD department division -2, only 15 apartments have submitted the report while the number is even lower in case of apartments that come under division-1 and 3. Division-3, which has the maximum number of apartments under it, has received the lowest number of water test reports.
Most apartments have not been able to submit the reports as they do not have a society to get the job done.
The notice had been served in view of the jaundice menace in the state. It was observed by the department that almost 90 percent of the apartments in the city don’t use the supply water facility from PHD. Also, they have connected to the sewerage lines illegally.
“We have received water sample test reports from only a handful of apartments. We will serve the notice again. We will consider if the BDA can intervene and take action against the apartments not submitting test reports,” said executive engineer of PHD division-2 PK Nayak.
As per reports of PHD, No Objection Certificates (NOCs) have been awarded to 237 apartments in 2011, 135 apartments in 2012, 48 apartments in 2013, 132 apartments in 2014.
