Bhubaneswar, Feb 28:
Two police personnel of Andhra Pradesh were today assaulted by residents of Pokhariput in Odisha’s capital city while they were trying to arrest a wanted fraudster.
Airfield police sources said the two-member police team from Kothapet police station of Andhra Pradesh, which was in civil clothes, reached Pokhariput to arrest the wanted fraudster identified as Rabindra Panda, who had allegedly cheated some persons in the neighbouring state.
The Kothapet police had registered a case in the matter earlier acting on which they had come to Bhubaneswar today to trace and nab Panda.
When the Andhra Pradesh police reached the spot in a Scorpio vehicle with Ex Union Minister written on it, local residents suspected foul play and assaulted both the police officials.
Later the Andhra Pradesh police lodged a complaint with the Airfield police station in this connection.
“The Andhra Pradesh police had not informed us about their plans before planning the operation to nab Panda, which led to the unfortunate consequence they have to face today. We are investigating the matter,” said a police official of the Airfield police station.
