Bhubaneswar, June 5:
Odia film actor Anubhav Mohanty is the official BJD candidate for the lone Rajya Sabha seat, election for which will be held on June 19.
This was announced by Odisha chief minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik, who returned to the state capital after a week-long Delhi trip today.
The seat had fallen vacant after AU Singhdeo, who after being elected to the Rajya Sabha, was asked to resign and instead contest the Assembly polls from his old seat Bolangir, which he failed to retain this time.
While the BJD supremo kept his ‘promise’ of sending Anubhav to the Rajya Sabha, his announcement today has put to rest all speculations over who finally would get the party ticket for the lone seat which ensures a tenure of the full term of six years.
Naveen’s move to nominate the political greenhorn, a film actor, over experienced and senior party leaders is believed to have been in line with his plan to sideline and eventually weed out the old guards from the party.
