Paradip, Dec 1 :
There was great jubilation in the anti-Posco camp in Dhinkia on Saturday evening after the chairman of the Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS ) Abhay Sahoo was released from Kujang’s Samagola jail following a court order, local reports said.
Sahoo who has been spearheading the agitation against the proposed Posco steel plant in Dhinkia-Nuagaon near the Paradip port for the last 8 years, was arrested for the third time in May this year from Bhubaneswar airport when he was about to board a flight to Chennai to attend a convention organised by the Communist Party of India (CPI).
He was booked under Sections 147, 148, 307, 379, 506 and 120B of IPC.
There have been 54 cases of different nature against Sahu over the years. However, he has secured bail in as many as 50 cases.
His arrest in May this year was on the basis of four fresh cases that included his alleged involvement in a bomb explosion that killed three persons, causing obstructions to government work and other offences.
Sahoo was arrested on two previous occasions in 2008 and 2011 but was finally granted bail in December 2011.
