Starvation reportedly claimed another life in western Odisha. A woman named Bhagabati Kunwar (65) died due to lack of food in her hut in Mahimunda village under Puintala block of Balangir district on Tuesday.


She was receiving monthly pension from the government but had not been issued with a BPL card. According to villagers, Bhagabati lost her husband long ago and has a son namely Haddu, who is now staying in Tamil Nadu looking for job opportunities.

Following the death of Bhagabati, administrative officers and media persons reached the spot.

“Annapurna card was issued to her and she was getting the monthly rice allotment since July. She died of illness,” said BDO Sri Nayak.
