Bhubaneswar, May 31:
In its continuing crackdown on sex rackets run in the Odisha capital, Commissionerate Police claimed to have busted a thriving sex racket being run from a place in Station Bazaar Square under Laxmisagar police limits here today.
Acting on a tip off, a team led by ACP Akshaya Mishra conducted surprise raid on the room and arrested the alleged kingpin of the racket and took into custody three girls.
Sources in the commissionerate police declined to give details about the kingpin and the girls engaged by him on the ground that it could compromise the investigation into the case. But they did reveal that the kingpin, who was apparently running the racket at the place for several months now, belonged to Gobindpur in Cuttack district while the three girls were from Puri, Nayagarh and Chhattisgarh.
The kingpin would be forwarded to court tomorrow while the girls would be sent to a short stay home, the sources said.
Sounding a warning to other persons in the twin city engaged in flesh trade, Twin City Commissioner Dr RP Sharma said; “This type of surprise raids will continue in the city with the leadership of senior police officers to stop the illegal racket.”
Commissionerate Police had on Thursday busted a sex racket being run in the garb of a beauty parlour in the city. During raid the police had rescued 11 girls and arrested four men from three parlours near Kalpana Square.
