Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced a cash reward of Rs 1.5 crore for Odisha-born ace sprinter Dutee Chand, who brought laurels for the nation and the state by clinching two silver medals at the 18th Asian Games.
Patnaik also announced that the State Government will bear expenses of preparation by the athlete for the next Olympics.
An equal amount of cash reward was earlier announced by the CM when Dutee had won silver medal in the women’s 100 metres event.
She yesterday bagged the second silver medal by finishing at second position in the women’s 200 metres race.
Dutee clocked 23.20 seconds to finish behind Bahrain’s Edidiong Odiong, who claimed the gold medal in 22.96 seconds. Dutee had also topped the standings in the semi-finals with a timing of 23.00 seconds, her personal best.
