Cuttack, Dec 12:
The death of another Ravenshaw University girl student who succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday, is still shrouded in mystery. While the girl’s mother insisted that it was not accidental death and that she had been killed, police sources said it may have been an accident or an act of suicide.
The undergraduate student, identified as Moonmoon Chakrabarty of Kathagada Sahi, was found in a pool of blood near Big Bazar shopping mall in the city on Tuesday night.
The girl most probably fell from the third floor of the shopping mall accidentally, police said, adding that a suicide angle cannot be ruled out. The possibility of someone pushing her from behind is also being inquired into, said a senior police official.
Rejecting the suicide angle, the girl’s mother claimed that her daughter was pushed from behind by someone.
“She was very innocent and could not have committed suicide,” said the victim’s mother.
“We are investigating into the incident, which occurred under the Dargha Bazaar police limits, after registering an unnatural death (UD) case,” Cuttack DCP S Praveen Kumar told OST.
It may be mentioned that the body of another undergraduate girl was retrieved from under the Kathjodi railway bridge last week.
