Baripada, Jan 25:
A debt-ridden farmer in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself to death.
The deceased farmer has been identified as Laxman Majhi (45) of Kadamdiha village of Chandanpur panchayat under Bangiriposhi police limits, reports said.
Laxman’s body was found hanging from a mahua tree near his field early morning today. Police on being informed has lodged an unnatural death case and has sent the body for post-mortem.
Local sources said Laxman had borrowed Rs 25,000 as loan from the Bank of India branch at Bangiriposhi last year. His crops were ruined due to scanty rainfall and for the last few days he was under mental pressure to repay his loans.
“He has committed suicide by hanging himself after losing his mental balance,” said deceased Laxman’s relative Bajan Murmu.
