The District Child Welfare Committee (DCWC) of Odisha’s Nayagarh district, District Child Protection Officer and police, have rescued a 14 year-old girl while she was being married off to a man twice her age on Thursday.
Acting on a tip off the team rushed to to Kaunri temple in Govindpur village were the marriage was halfway over and stopped the illegal wedding.
The groom, a native Haripur village, under the Itamati police station in Nayagarh, Pratap Nayak (28), was being married to a 14 year-old girl, a class 9 student.
After her rescue, the victim was produced before the DCWC were her family agreed to allow her to study further.
The girl will again be produced before the child welfare committee after her class nine exams.
Notably, on March 3 another minor girl was rescued while she was being married off to a man in Puri district.
