New Delhi, July 11:

The Lok Sabha today passed the controversial Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2014, to deal with the resettlement and rehabilitation of those displaced by the Polavaram project despite severe opposition by TRS and BJD MPs from Odisha leading to uproarious scenes, forcing adjournment of the Lok Sabha till 2pm.

The bill allows merging of some villages and mandals of Telangana with Seemandhra for execution of Polavaram Multi-Purpose Irrigation Project.

MPs from the three states belonging to BJD, Congress and TRS had held a meeting yesterday at the Constitution Club to discuss the future course of action over the project.

About 100 villages of Odisha would also be affected by the project, the BJD MPs said.

The transfer of the villages is being done without taking the consent of the tribals of Telangana which is mandatory according to the fifth schedule of the AP Reorganisation Act, the sources added.
