The Odisha Assembly was adjourned till 3PM by Speaker Niranjan Pujari on the second day of the budget session for 2016-17 amidst ruckus by opposition BJP and Congress members during the Zero Hour over large scale corruption in appointment of assistant executive engineers.
The ruling BJD members also contributed to the ruckus during Zero Hour by targeting the Centre on the controversial Polavaram dam issue.
During the Question Hour Leader of Opposition (LoP) Narsingh Mishra drew the attention of the Speaker alleging large scale corruption in appointment of assistant executive engineers.
Mishra demanded a debate on the issue in the House.
“In this issue corruption has taken place with the Chief Minister’s knowledge. The Chief Minister should give his reply on this issue,” Mishra said.
Congress members demanded a ruling from the Speaker on the issue which was supported by BJP members.
In the commotion, ruling BJD MLA from Malkangiri Manas Madkami raised the Polavaram issue and demanded a debate over it in the House which was supported by other BJD members.
After the Speaker allowing for a debate on the subject both Congress and BJP members rushed into the well of the House created noisy scenes and demanded a ruling from the Chair on the corruption in the appointment of assistant executive engineers.
After the House was adjourned by the Speaker till 3 PM BJD Ministers and MLAs criticized the partisan policy of the Centre with regard to the Polavaram issue.
BJD members and Ministers are on a dharna in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue inside the Assembly premises.
The House was stormy from the beginning of the Question Hour today.
