The AIIMS-Bhubaneswar in Odisha is all set to be formally inaugurated on February 26 (Wednesday) by Union Health minister Gulam Nabi Azad.
The world class medical facility is already operational with 24 departments including Paediatrics, Medicine, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology and ENT functional. The facility which is located in Sijua on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar has currently 150 beds in different wards for in patients with three operation theatres, 10 intensive care units and four high dependent units.
Dr Ashok Mahapatra, the Director of the super specialty facility told reporters that they are eagerly waiting for the event although the Institute is treating patients in 24 departments. He said neurosurgery in the institute has not yet been possible as it requires a number of specially trained junior assistants for the job.
Dr Mahapatra said it would take another one year to make the facility fully functional.
At present 700 to 800 patients are visiting the facility on a daily basis.
