After HC order, retrenched Odisha Amin attempts suicide

Bolangir: Dejected and frustrated over Orissa High Court upholding the decision of the State government to scrap the June 23, 2013, appointment of 169 Revenue Inspectors (RI), Assistant Revenue Inspectors (ARI) and Amins in Bolangir district, a retrenched Amin, a resident of Rameswar Nagar allegedly attempted suicide today.

The retrenched Amin identified as Nirmalya Swain, daughter of Satrughana Swain allegedly lost her mental balance and had hanged herself in her house today.

However, her family members broke open the door of the house and have admitted her to the district headquarters hospital here after rescuing her.

Notably, 169 RIs, ARIs, and Amins were given appointment in Bolangir district in 2013.

The State government following detection of large scale scam in the recruitment scrapped the appointments on March 4, 2016.

Later those who were retrenched had moved the Odisha Administrative Tribunal (OAT) against the State government’s order. The OAT had ordered for reinstatement of the retrenched employees.

However, the State government had moved the High Court challenging OAT’s order.

The High Court today upheld the State government’s decision annulling the appointments.
