Hundreds people along with the representatives of 28 social action groups staged a mass dharna near the Raj Bhawan here on Saturday demanding CBI inquiry into mining and land scams in Odisha.
A four member delegation headed by Pradip Pradhan along with Ashok Mallik, Bijay Parida and Swayanprava met with the Odisha Governor Dr SC Jamir and submitted a memorandum to him on behalf the protesters, a release issued by social activist Pradip Kumar Pradhan said.
The release said the memorandum has urged the Governor’s intervention and direction to the state government for an effective inquiry into the irregularities and illegalities in respect of allotment of land/ plots of General Administration, BDA, IDCO- as exposed by the CAG Report- and initiate legal action against ministers, MLAs , officers, private institutions and companies involved in the land scam in Odisha.
During the discussion with Governor, the 4-member delegation apprised him of the failure of the Task Force- constituted to inquire into the land scam- and Crime Branch, “which is working at the behest of chief minister to cover up land scam at Ghangapatana.”
The delegation treid to impress upon the Governor that CBI inquiry is the only viable option for a proper inquiry into land scam.
The team also discussed about clandestine manner in which the government had drafted the Prevention of Land Grabbing Bill, 2014 without any public consultation. They also alleged that the chief minister had provided protection to a number of top bureaucrats and senior police officials holding crucial posts, who have acquired multiple government plots.
The Governor has assured the delegation that he would look into the matter and give the direction accordingly, the press release said.
