Bhubaneswar, Nov 9:

Following reports of several petrol pumps not accepting Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes from people after demonitisation of the high denomination notes, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today said that strict action will be taken against such outlets.

“There will be strict action against Petrol Pumps/Gas Stations of Public Sector OMCs for not accepting Rs. 500 & 1000 notes for 1st 72 Hrs,” Pradhan tweeted.

The minister also requested everyone to bring any such violation to his or Oil Marketing Companies‘ (OMC) notice immediately with name and location of the outlet either using his twitter handle or the same of the companies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi while announcing the demonitisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes had yesterday said that retail petrol pumps will accept such notes till November 11, after which the stations will have to keep a register of such notes for some time.
