Army man nabbed after 8 yrs for acid attack on Odisha girl

Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough in 2009 acid attack on braveheart Pramodini Roul, Odisha police arrested the prime accused from Kolkata.

A special team of Jagatsinghpur police arrested the prime accused Santosh Bedanta, who is working with Indian Army and posted at Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir.

Besides, Santosh, police also arrested his key associate Biswajit Dalsinghray, who assisted him in execution of acid attack. He was arrested from Nayagarh.

Police managed to arrest the prime accused after eight years to give justice to acid attack survivor Pramodini.

Pramodini lost her eysight and turned blind in the horrific acid attack over one-sided love affair when she was only 16.

Santosh allegedly threw acid on Pramodini while she was returning to her uncle’s house at Tirtol on April 18, 2009.

She underwent a series of surgeries at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack but attempts went in vain and she could not retrieve her eyesight.

Earlier, police had closed the case in 2012 citing ‘no clue’ in the incident. However, Jagatsinghpur police reopened the case in August this year after getting evidence in the case.

The team of police visited Jammu and Kashmir to get the clue about the accused. Later, the police nabbed him in Kolkata where he was hiding.

Recently, Pramodini had undergone a surgery following which she is now able to see her world through one eye.
