Bhubaneswar, Dec 19:
Members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) state unit on Thursday protested at the Master Canteen Square here against the US over the arrest of Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade and the probe by New York police, which saw her ‘strip searched’ and ‘cavity searched’.
Holding party flags and banners, the agitators shouted slogans ‘Uncivilised US- Down Ddown’ and burnt the effigy of US President Barack Obama. ABVP Secretary Nirakar Sahu condemned the act of the US which it said is against all accepted norms of civilised behaviour. “This is not the first time the US has done something of this nature,” he pointed out recalling the pat down and strip search of important personalities like former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam and Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan earlier.
“This unacceptable act of US is against our country’s honour and pride. Therefore our country should act strongly without thinking about its effect on trade and business relations with the US,” added Sahu.
