Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is willing to abolish block grant system, informed School & Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra here today.
Discussions with block grant teachers in this regard are in the final stage said Patra while adding that a decision in this regard will be taken soon.
“The State government is aware of the urgency of the situation. Block grant system will be abolished and replaced with grant-in-aid. We had never imagined that. We should thank the Chief Minister since he has agreed for that,” stated Patra talking to reporters here.
Block grant school and college teachers are on dharna for the last 16 days demanding the abolition of block grant system. The agitating teachers are demanding equal pay for equal work and same service conditions as applicable to government servants.
Three meetings held earlier between the agitating teachers and the State government in this connection remained incomplete.
