In a dramatic turn, an alleged kidnapper today committed suicide by blowing his head with a gun after police surrounded him in Odisha’s Bargarh district.
The deceased identified as Prem Behera is the prime accused in the kidnapping of Antaryami Pradhan, husband of Bheden Block chairperson Sujata Pradhan.
Acting on reliable information, police laid a trap to apprehend a group of four including Prem who were travelling in a car. The cops intercepted the car bearing registration number OD02 AS 3256 near Patnagarh in the district.
While three of the occupants surrendered to police and moved out of the vehicle, Prem shot a bullet on his head fearing arrest.
“The accused shot himself dead while police surrounded him to arrest. Three others have been taken into custody today and two others were held earlier in this connection taking the number to five. We are interrogating them,” Baragarh SP Jugal Kishore said.
Antaryami – a teacher – was abducted on November 24 while he was on his way to school at Jhilminda. However, he was freed two days of the incident. Bargarh police had rescued him from Kantabanji.
The victim had claimed that Rs 25 lakh was given to contract killers to eliminate him.
