Bhubaneswar, Dec 13:
Launching an ambitious drive to enrol one lakh youth from across the state within a period of one month here on Friday, the state unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) urged students, youths, women, social activists, working professionals and Government employees to join the party that has stunned everybody with its spectacular performance in the Delhi Assembly elections to clean up the political system.
The party also urged supporters to come out with physical and monetary help that would help it campaign effectively in the coming elections to strengthen the anti-corruption movement.
Talking to media persons here, AAP State committee convener Nishikant Mohapatra said, “People should not waste their votes either on the ruling BJD and the opposition Congress and BJP in the state as all three of them have failed to ensure a corruption-free Odisha.”
“After the spectacular show of the party in Delhi, we are sure that people want a leadership which is determined for a corruption and graft free society. Hence, we appeal to honest people from all spheres and political parties, including the Congress and BJP, to join our party in the fight against corruption,” said Mohapatra, adding that the party would focus on enrolling the youth for a sustainable Odisha.
“The party’s aim is to break the myth of money and muscle power in politics and this will be possible only when common men participate in the political process, be it candidate selection, campaigning or decision making. Politics should be free from corruption, criminalisation and opportunism,” said Mohapatra said.
Without elaborating in how many Assembly seats AAP would contest in the ensuing Assembly elections, Mohapatra said a decision to this effect would be taken soon.
The membership drive will continue till January 15, he said.
