AAP ready to work with like-minded parties in Andhra

Hyderabad, Jan 18 :

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ready to work with like-minded parties like Lok Satta in Andhra Pradesh, party leader Prashant Bhushan said Saturday.

Bhushan, who inaugurated the AAP office here, also hinted that Lok Satta, led by former bureaucrat Jayaprakash Narayan, may merge with AAP.AAP

He told reporters that there were discussions between the two parties in this regard but declined to comment further, saying it would be too early to say anything.

Jayaprakash Narayan had last week met AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other leaders of the party in the national capital.

Bhushan said the AAP would constitute a committee to chalk out the strategy for contesting the ensuing elections in Andhra Pradesh.

Telugu actor Shivaji and several social activists attended the AAP office inauguration. Shivaji, however, said he had not taken a decision to join the AAP.

Meanwhile, the AAP faced protests on its debut in the state for backing the demand for a separate Telangana state.

Party supporters from Seemandhra (Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra) raised slogans in supported of united Andhra Pradesh when Bhushan was addressing a party meeting.

Earlier, the AAP leader said his party supports smaller states as it believes in decentralisation of power.

He, however, said smaller states would help only when there is a true decentralisation of power at the grassroots level.

Bhushan said the AAP would fight for the problems of the common man in all regions of the state.

He said there was a need for political revolution in the country. He also called for reforms in the electoral system to get rid of money and muscle power.

“Our party wants to bring a change in the democratic system so that aam admi can participate in legislation and governance,” he said. (IANS)
