New Delhi, May 20 :
An Aam Aadmi Party legislator has been booked for allegedly cheating a 45-year-old man from his own assembly constituency, police said Tuesday.
A first information report (FIR) was registered Monday at Ashok Nagar police station against lawmaker Manoj Kumar from Kondli assembly constituency in east Delhi.
“Manoj Kumar was booked in a forgery case. He allegedly took Rs.6 lakh from Vijay Kumar in November 2012 to sell him a plot by showing false documents of the property,” a police officer said.
Vijay Kumar resides in New Ashok Nagar area in east Delhi.
Vijay Kumar informed police that Manoj Kumar, who deals in property, had told him to buy a plot for Rs.21 lakh and had taken Rs.6 lakh in advance in November 2012.
Since then, according to police, Manoj Kumar was avoiding the man’s request to hand over the papers of the property, saying he was busy in party-related work.
Vijay Kumar recently came to know that the plot sold to him was already registered in the name of someone else, the police officer said.
“When Vijay Kumar approached the MLA and asked him about the matter and return his money, the MLA allegedly refused to return it. The MLA also told the man to leave his place and never come back again,” the officer said.
Police were verifying the documents before taking any action against the MLA.
AAP leaders have refused to comment over the issue.
