Angul, October 30:
There is still no clarity over the ‘abduction’ and ‘rescue’ of two employees of an Odisha-based contractor here.
According to reports, Amar Sahu and Hemant Sahu, two employees of a contractor SK Agarwal, were allegedly abducted at gunpoint by an unidentified group from the camp office of contractor SK Agarwal, functioning out of a school in Gibida on October 20.
The SDPO, Palalahada, Harekrushna Pradhan told media persons on Thursday, suspecting the abduction to have been the handiwork of Maoists, the police had conducted combing operations in the nearby Nagira and Gibida forests and finally managed to rescue the abductees from a spot, 7/8 kms away from Nagira. He said the investigation is on to find out the truth behind the ‘abduction’.
On the other hand, there are reports that both Amar and Hemant were nabbed by the police, not from Gibida forest but from the Rourkela-Palalahada private bus “Ambika’ at Barakote near Golabandh in Debagarh district, during a routine check on the highway on Wednesday night.
This has been confirmed by the conductor of the bus Nilamabar, sources said.
Amidst confusion over the so-called rescue of the abductees by the police, questions are being asked as to whether the alleged abduction was carried out by Maoists or local extortionists.
Palalahada police, however, refused to comment, saying the matter is under investigation.
