A record 9,000 policemen will be deployed during the Nabakalebara Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha DGP Sanjeev Marik informed here today..
While a posse of police officers consisting of 30 ASPs, 70 DSPs, 102 inspectors, 720 sub inspectors and 164 platoons of policemen will be engaged in the operations, 12 commandant and SP rank officers will keep a close watch on the security scenario during the Rath Yatra, said Marik after attending a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to review security arrangements for the mega event held here today.
The DGP said three interceptor boats will be deployed on the Puri coast for enhanced coastal security while two platoons of Quick Rapid Action Force will be deployed to handle emergencies.
Information on various Nabakalebara rituals and real-time information on traffic movement will be provided through large LED TV screens at 20 different locations for the convenience of tourists. Booklets containing detailed information on traffic arrangements will also be distributed to tourists besides being given elaborate publicity through radio, television and other media.
Parking arrangements have been made at 27 locations. Three out of 16 unsafe buildings on the Grand Road have been demolished and others have been sealed for public safety during the Rath Yatra.
An ultra modern police control room, surveillance using CCTV cameras and watch towers have already become operational in Puri.
Moreover, X-Ray machines and mobile baggage scanners are being installed for scanning of baggage of tourists.
