Dhamnagar: Around 80 school students have reported ill after taking mid-day meal (MDM) at Indragobinda Nodal School of Narayanpur in Daipur panchayat under Dhamnagar block in Odisha’s Bhadrak district today.
While these students have been admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) here, four of them who were seriously ill have been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Bhadrak.
Students who have been shifted to the DHH at Bhadrak are Subhashree Pagal, Ipsita Nath, Amit Das and Rajlaxmi Sahu.
Tension prevails in the area over the incident. The district administration has suspended an Assistant Teacher of the school, Anirudh Das, who was in-charge of MDM.
Bhadrak MP Arjun Charan Sethi, Dhamnagar MLA Muktikanta Mandal, District Collector Gyana Ranjan Das, CDMO Dr Gitanjali Patnaik, several officers and local politicians rushed here to meet the students and inquire about their health condition.
According to reports, the students were served rice and dal today. By the time over 80 students had taken their meals, a dead gecko was found in the pot which contained dal.
Out of 211 students who had attended school today, 80 had taken MDM.
