Bhubaneswar, Feb 26:
7th Indian Youth Science Congress organized by KIIT University in association with M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development and SRM University was inaugurated today in Odisha’s KIIT premises.
The theme of the three day conference is ‘Young Scientists and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals’.
“Future of our country lies in youth. Dedicated and intelligent young scientists should work to achieve sustainable development goals. The young scientists would get chance to exchange their ideas with experienced and senior scientists during the congress. The young scientists should come out with concrete solution and ideas to overcome the problems to achieve sustainable goals,” said Odisha Government’s Higher Education and Science & Technology Minister Pradeep Panigrahi who attended the event as Chief Guest.
“There is scientific temper and scientific curiosity among children. Scientific research is not an individual wisdom. It is inter-disciplinary work and collective wisdom. Sustainability has three wings such as economic sustainability, Social sustainability and environmental sustainability. We should work for this sustainability. Poverty is reduced by fifty percent, but hunger still continues. We have to achieve hunger free and give food security to all,” said Professor MS Swaminathan in his speech.
“We are the first country that has legal access to food security. Agriculture is job led growth. So we have to give importance on agriculture. More and more youths should take interest on agriculture. 97 percent of our total water resource is sea water. Marine resource has enormous opportunities. We should work for utilizing marine resources with maintaining our bio diversity,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion founder of KIIT & KISS Achyuta Samanta said that the topics that have been selected for the youth science congress are similar with the ones practiced both in KISS & KIIT and thanked Swaminathan and MSSRF for organizing the youth science congress in KIIT.
