71 Maoist supporters surrender in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri, Mar 31: 

Only two days after more than 100 Maoist sympathisers surrendered in Odisha’s Malkangiri, 71 supporters of the red rebels surrendered before Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra today.

Out of the 71 sympathisers, there are 23 women, according to Malkangiri police.

“71 sympathisers of Daldali and Gurupadar villages under Mathili police station surrendered before the police today. There are 18 militia members, six village committee members and five belong to Chetana Mandali. They have been working for Darabha Division of the Maoists,” said SP Mahapatra speaking to reporters today.

With this, nearly 2000 Maoist have surrendered before police in the district in the last one year of which nearly 1000 have surrendered in the last one month.

“We will launch developmental schemes of the government for the welfare of the villagers. Besides, they will be provided with assistance as per the surrender and rehabilitation policy of Odisha Government,” Mahapatra added.
