70% voting in 2nd phase Odisha polls

Odisha Sun Times Bureau

Bhubaneswar, Apr 17:

An average of 70% of polling was reported in the second phase of elections in Odisha for 11 Lok Sabha and 77 Assembly seats today, Chief Electoral Officer Mona Sharma said on the basis of information received from the ground.Voting Polling

The CEO, however, clarified that the final voting percentage of polling will be known only after reports come from the districts after close of voting hours at 6 pm.

Given the fact that the preliminary assessment of 67% polling after the first phase polling on April 10 was revised to 75% the next day, it can be safely said that the final voting percentage in this round would go beyond 75%.

Dhenkanal and Angul jointly recorded the highest voting percentage of 75% while Khurda recorded the lowest of just 45%, Sharma said. She said it was the poor voting in Bhubaneswar (40%) which dragged the overall percentage in the district down, she said.

Four electronic voting machines (EVMs), including two in Niali, were damaged during polling today, the CEO said.

Not a single vote was cast in eight out of the 15 booths in Chitrakonda Assembly constituency where repolling took place today.

Repolling was ordered in 22 booths where voting was affected because of various reasons, including Maoist violence.
