The state vigilance today arrested a sub inspector of police (SI) posted at Kosagumuda police station in Nabarangpur district on charges of accepting illegal gratification from a complainant to settle a land dispute between two brothers.
Vigilance department sleuths today caught Ahibhusan Jena red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from one Nakula Bhatra of Dariguda village for settling a land dispute between Bhatra and his step brother, said a press note of the Vigilance department.
The bribe amount of Rs 4,000 was seized from Jena’s shirt pocket by Vigilance officials in the presence of witnesses. Washing of his hand and shirt pocket resulted in a positive chemical reaction confirming acceptance of bribe.
Reportedly, Jena had earlier taken an amount of Rs 1,000 from Bhatra and had demanded the balance Rs 4000 to settle the dispute when he was caught by the Vigilance department officers in a well laid out trap.
Further investigations are on.
