More than 63,000 seats in the Plus Two Science stream remained vacant after the first phase admission which concluded in Odisha on Wednesday.
Sources in the Higher Education department said out of a total of 3,12,086 students to whom intimation letters were sent for first phase admission, 2,48,554 have taken admission leaving 1,82,504 seats in Science, Arts and Commerce streams vacant.
In the Science stream, out of a total of 1,42,175 seats, 78,905 seats have been filled up while in the Arts and Commerce streams, 2,11,259 and 21,938 seats have been filled up out of a total of 2,52,118 and 47,087 seats respectively in the first phase admission.
However, most of the seats in the leading Plus Two junior colleges in the states like the BJB Junior College, RD Women’s College, Basic Science College, GM Junior College, FM Junior College, SCS Junior College and Khallikote Junior College have been filled up in the first phase admission.
It may be recalled that the admission in the Plus Two streams this year is being held for a total number of 4,41,380 seats in 1514 Plus Two colleges in the state.
For the first time, the students have taken admission in the Arts stream this year.
The second phase cut-off marks will be announced on July 13 while the admission will be held from July 15 to 17. The list of vacant seats in the colleges after the second phase admission would be announced on July 21 while regular classes would begin from July 30.
