A fortnight after Rs 11 lakh was looted from an accountant of a private hospital under Khandagiri police limits in the Odisha capital, the special squad of the Commissionerate Police, along with Khandagiri police, arrested six accused for their alleged involvement in the case late last night.
The arrested accused were identified as Anil Kumar Das (29) alias Anil of Katesinghpur in Jagatsinghpur district, Tulu Sahu alias Robert (33) of Balichhak Sahi in Khurda district, Manas Kumar Das (28) of Bidyadharpur, Goutam Bhoi (25) of Bhadimula, Charan Das alias Gugu (23) of Bhadimula and Lokanath Dash alias Litu (19) of Niali in Cuttack district. They were booked under sections 394, 397, 307, 34 of IPC and 25, 27 Arms Act, Twin city Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr R P Sharma revealed here today.
Briefing media persons about the arrest here, the commissioner said a police team on patrol duty arrested Anil and Charan from near Sikharchandi under Infocity police limits at about 1.10 am last night.
“The two accused, who were on a bike, fired on the policemen on duty when asked to stop. Anil sustained a bullet injury on his left leg when the police fired back in retaliation. Both Anil and Charan were overpowered by the policemen. Based on the information provided by the two, the other four accused were arrested from different places,” Sharma said.
Cash worth Rs 3.99 Lakh, one 9 mm pistol, one 7.62 mm pistol, four rounds of bullet, three mobile phones, one car, three bikes, iron pipe and other accessories have been seized from their possession. All the criminals were forwarded to the local court today, Dr Sharma informed.
Lokanath, a security guard employed in the hospital, was the person who had passed on information about the accountant leaving with cash to deposit in the bank to Anil, the mastermind. Anil, who lives in a rented house near SUM hospital later involved the other gang members, the CP said. Investigation is on to arrest other three other members of the gang who are still at large, he added.
During verification, the police revealed that accused Anil was previously involved in eight cases, Charan in seven cases, Tulu in seven cases, Manas in 22 cases, Goutam in seven cases and Lokanath in one case at different police stations of the State.
