Malkangiri, Sep 12:
Chipping away at the Maoist stronghold of Malkangiri in Odisha, 58 Maoist supporters, including 11 militia members, of Orelguda village in the district today surrendered to the police.
The villagers who surrendered to the police include 30 women.
Earlier in the day, the villagers went to the district police headquarters and met SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra before formally surrendering to the police.
“They will be provided financial assistance in line with the rehabilitation policy of the state government,” Mohapatra said.
Notably, 190 Maoist supporters have surrendered to the police in the district in just the last two days.
