Odisha Crime Branch (CB) today arrested five more persons on charges of making casteist remarks on some visitors at Trahi Achyuta ashram under Balipatna police limits.
The CB has slapped charges under the relevant sections of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the accused.
Though the identity of the accused has not been revealed by CB officials, they did reveal that the arrests were made based on the FIRs registered at different police stations against the self-styled godman Sura Baba alias Surendra Mishra, head of Trahi Achyuta Ashram, and some other associates.
The complaints lodged by visitors had alleged that some of the close associates of Sura Baba had made casteist remarks on them.
With the arrest of five accused today, the number of accused arrested in the case has now increased to seven.
On August 31, commissionerate police had arrested Sura Baba and his two sons after an hour-long interrogation here.
Police had slapped charges under section 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 342 (Punishment for wrongful confinement), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC and section 3(I)(x) of the ST and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and charges under Sec 25 of the Arms Act against the trio.
