Local police and BSF jawans on Friday arrested five Naxals and seized two country made guns and Naxal posters during combing operations in Chinasapadam area under Bandhugaon block in Koraput district.
The arrested Naxals have been identified as Jatu Maleka (20) of Bandhugaon, Cheketi Prasad (28) of Nilabadi, Bulu alias Budhia (20) of Chinasapadam, Avi Pidika (25) of Chinasapadam, and Adana Meleka (20) of Sapdam village, said Jalandhar Jali, SDPO, Laxmipur at a press conference here.
Police said the Naxals, belonging to the Koraput Srikakulam Mao Division, were involved in six cases of manslaughter, torching of Bandhugaon BSNL exchange, loot and attack on policemen and several other acts of violence.
However, 20-30 to Naxals managed to escape during the operations on Friday, police said.
Sources in the police said Naxal leaders Aruna, Daya, and Ramarao Meleka of the Koraput-Srikakulam Mao division were among the 30 who managed to escape during the combing operations.
Intelligence inputs suggest Naxals are reorganizing themselves in the forested areas of Champajhola, Dereka and Brajaguda on the Andhra-Odisha border, sources in the police said.
