After a three-hour search operation, the Nandankanan zoo officials managed to capture five female Barasinghas or swamp deer after they escaped from their enclosure Monday afternoon.
According to sources, five deer managed to escape from enclosure no.38 where they were housed and jumped into the nearby Kanjia lake. For three hours the deer were found struggling to get out of the waterbody .
A team of zoo officials led by the Assistant Director KL Purohit rushed to the lake and rescued the animals with the help of nets after a three-hour long operation.
“The five deer are safe and under treatment by the zoo vets” , said the deputy director of the Zoo, Chitta Ranjan Mishra.
