In a major relief for the Odisha government striking teachers and staff of the 488-category block grant colleges withdrew their stir following written assurance from the Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahy.
The striking teachers decided to cooperate in the conduct of Plus II examinations scheduled to begin from March 2 after obtaining written assurance from the Higher Education Minister to look into their demands during discussions with him this evening.
President of 488-category block grant college teachers and employees coordination committee Pabitra Mahala told reporters after the meeting with the minister that the ‘talks were successful’.
Earlier in the day, over 10,000 lecturers and staff of 488-category block grant colleges held a massive rally at the Lower PMG square here to press on their demands for abolition of block grant system and implementation of full Grant-In-Aid (GIA) with service conditions in conformity with qualifications.
