Malkangiri , Mar 30:
Over 400 private buses in the Maoist-prone districts of Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur in Odisha remained off the roads today with private bus operators resorting to an indefinite strike protesting against the alleged unlawful detention of the staff of two buses by the police.
President of Private Bus Owners’ Federation, Jeypore, Durga Tripathy said; “We are not going to ply our buses unless police releases the staff of the two private buses, who have been unlawfully detained in Malkangiri police station.”
Malkangiri SP Akhileswar Singh appealed to the bus operators’ body to soften their stand and cooperate with the police for restoration of service. He said the staff of two buses had been detained on Saturday as migrant child labourers were allegedly being sent in one vehicle and the other did not have proper documents.
Commuters in the three districts where Assembly and Lok Sabha elections will be held on April 10 are facing a lot of hardship as the buses remained off the roads with no signs of the strike ending.
