Paralakhemundi (Gajapati), May 30:
The authorities of the Women and Child Development (WCD) department of Odisha’s Gajapati district have rescued 32 minor children including 10 girls from Sikabelpur in Karnataka, sources said.
Of the 32 minor children, 18 are from Gajapati, 12 from Kandhamal and two from Sambalpur.
The children were taken to Karnataka on the pretext of imparting education to them. However, the concerned school authorities had kept them in an unhygienic atmosphere.
Families of the children sought the help of the district administration after came to know about their pitiable condition. The matter was taken up with the Karnataka government and later, a team of the district police, accompanied by the district WCD member Pramod Nayak, went to the school in Karnataka and rescued the children, sources added..
