Seven persons, including three women, were arrested and forwarded to court by Tangarpali police in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Friday for their alleged involvement in pushing a minor girl into prostitution.
The matter came to the fore while investigating a dowry torture case against a man, who was staying with the said girl on a regular basis. On the complaint of the victim girl, police arrested seven persons from different locations of the city.
Sources said, a woman of Basanti Colony area of the city had lodged a complaint against her husband under section 498 (a), alleging that her husband has been torturing her and regularly residing with another girl in Balijodi area of the city.
Tangarpalli police station registered a case and started investigation in to this matter. During investigation, they came to know accused Santosh Panda, husband of the complainant woman, was staying with a minor girl in a house in Balijodi area. During interrogation, police came to know that one Pappu Swain, who is the boyfriend of this girl, has been using her for prostitution.
Investigating further, police arrested seven persons on Friday including three women, who were using this girl for prostitution.
The male persons arrested in this case, have been identified as Santosh Panda, Pappu Swain, Rajesh Yadav and Pradeep Prusty.
“We have arrested all seven persons in this case and have also forwarded them to court on Friday,” said Somanath Jena, IIC Tangarpalli police station.
