Three persons of a family, including a woman, sustained burn injuries after coming in contact with fire from a diya stand on the premises of Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri today.


The victims were identified as Lalita Behera, Dolagobinda Behera and Jitendra Behera, all hailing from Tarabai village in Jajpur district.

According to reports, the mishap took place when they were lighting diyas near the stand. The woman first came in contact with fire from the diya stand following which other two persons tried to save her.

On being informed, fire personnel reached the spot and rescued the trio. A fire official identified as Dilip Lenka was also injured in the process of rescuing them.

While the woman, who sustained critical burn injuries, was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, other two were taken to Puri district headquarters for treatment.
