Paradip, Oct 6:
Three fishermen died and seven others injured following an explosion in a deep-sea trawler on Sunday morning, about 40 km from the Paradip coast.
The deceased have been identified as Gopal Haldar, Balaram Bardhan and Mahadeb Behera of Baleswar district.
The exact nature and cause of the explosion could not ascertained.
However,there are reports that the packs of batteries which were kept close to the engine exploded either due to excessive heat or short circuit and caused the mishap.
While three others sustained serious burn injuries and four have received minor injuries.
The seriously injured fishermen were shifted to SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack while others with minor injuries were admitted at the PPT hospital here.
Sources in the Marine police station said that the fishing trawler, carrying about 10 fishermen, was fishing near here since three days.
