Rourkela, Sept 10:
Department of Life Science of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela is organizing a three-day national workshop on ‘Microbial Diversity and Bioremediation Technology’ from September 11 in the institute. The seminar is being sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology of the Union government and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.
A press note released to the media by RK Sinha, Secretary, Public Relation Committee of the Institute, said the workshop will focus on microbial diversity helping participants to learn various advance techniques involved in bioremediation through hands-on practices on machines and equipment. Besides, invited lectures by eminent academicians will be helpful to the students for further research and field work.
About 20 participants from across the country are likely to attend the workshop. In the recent past, Department of Life Science has acquired many sophisticated equipment and has developed specialized facilities for research. The workshop is coordinated by Prof Surajit Das as convener and Prof R Jayabalan as co-convener and Prof SK Patra, Head of the Department as chairman of the organizing committee, the press note added.
The workshop is scheduled to be inaugurated in the PK Parija Auditorium of the Institute. Prof BB Mishra, Head, Department of Microbiology OUAT, Bhubaneswar will be Chief Guest and Prof S Ajmal Khan, Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu will be Guest of Honour and Prof Sunil Kumar Sarangi, Director of the Institute will preside over the inaugural function.
