A three-day film festival organized by JD center of Art (JDCA) in association with state Tourism department and Directorate of Films Festivals began in Odisha capital today.
The 10th National Film Festival on Art and Artists is being organized at the Idcol auditorium in the city.Highlighting Odisha arts and crafts and showcasing the local arts forms which are dying a slow and steady death. Over 30 films will be screened in a span of three days including workshops and exhibitions.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Tourism Minister Ashok Chandra Panda, Bollywood actor Nandita Das were among other dignitaries who graced the occasion.
Notably, this festival is the brainchild of Jatin Das and is supported by his brother Biren Das, a renowned film maker.
During the event, seven films from Odisha, two international films and a few animation films by foreign students will be screened. A couple of films to watch out for are Pattachitra by Purnendu Pattrea which showcases the communities of the pattachitra artists and Madhavi Mudgal by Avinash Parischa on Odissi classical dance.
Some popular names making the rounds are Tarakasi by students of NIFT Bhubaneswar, Seventh walk by Amit Dutta on Paramjit Singh an eminent artist, Adoor: A Journey in Frames, a film on award- winning film maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan by Rajiv Mehrotra, and Vincent Van Gogh by Suzzane Timmer from Denmark.
The festival gives a platform to film makers to showcase talents and also an opportunity to interact with film directors. The other attention grabbers in this festival are workshops, exhibitions and interactive sessions with the masters. Nandan Saxena and Kavita Bahl will conduct a digital workshop; a miniature exhibition of Odisha handloom and crafts will be conducted with interactive sessions with artists and the audience.
