A total of 24 cold stores would be made functional in Odisha by the end of 2016. Overall, construction work is going on in various phases for 42 cold stores in the state, said Odisha Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy today.
Addressing a workshop on Smart Horticulture 2016 in Bhubaneswar today, Maharathy also added that out of the 24 cold stores scheduled to be completed this year, three would be completed by the end of this month.
The three stores – located in Champua, Rayagada and Titilagarh will be inaugurated by the end of this month.
He further emphasized that the State Government is trying to set up even more number of cold stores in the state for preservation of essential vegetables to allow higher margin to farmers and better availability of products in domestic market.
Inaugurating the workshop, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Mohanbhai Kundaria suggested that the Center and the State need to work in close cooperation to achieve better results. He assured complete support from the Centre to improve the condition of agriculture in the state.
Besides, he also advised the farmers to take advantage of various Central Government schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Integrated Cold Chain Availability Platform (ICAP), Soil Health Card, Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojna etc.
