Malkangiri, Nov 22:
In yet another setback to the CPI (Maoist), as many as 222 Maoist sympathizers surrendered before Odisha police here today.
According to reports, 222 Maoist sympathizers including 19 militia and 72 women from Telkunda village under Kalimela police station limits in the district surrendered before district Superintendent of Police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra at the headquarters.
It may be recalled that as many as 101 Maoist supporters including 24 militia and 26 women had surrendered before the police here yesterday. The villagers hailed from Badigeta and Gandhigaon under Kalimela block.
Prior to that, as many as 145 Maoist supporters, hailing from Kurub and Marigata villages under Kalimela police limits in the district had surrendered before police three days ago.
The series of surrenders in the recent past clearly indicates the Reds losing ground in the district.
