Brahmapur, May 4:

Police today arrested 22 persons for their alleged involvement in hurling bombs during a clash between two groups in which four persons were injured at Bilipada in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

Police sources said a minimum of three houses were damaged in the violence that broke out at Bilipada village late on Saturday night in which rival groups hurled bombs at each other. Several bombs were allegedly burst during the violent clash, the sources added.

Around 150 crude bombs and bomb making material, which include gun-powder and urea, were seized from the roof of a house during raids in the village following the clash, police said.

While police have been deployed in the trouble torn village to maintain law and order, two critically injured persons have been shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, police said.

Old enmity between two groups was stated to be the cause of the incident, the police added.

SP (Ganjam) Ashish Kumar Singh said “The situation is under control and police is keeping a watch”.

More arrests are likely, the SP added.
