Puri, Nov 23:
In a shocking incident, the police found 21 human skulls, three animal skulls, bones and skeletons under a bridge on Kushabhadra river at Liakhia on the Puri-Konark marine drive in Odisha on Sunday morning.
The incident came to light after some locals informed the Ramachandi police. During investigation, police found fresh vermilion smeared on these skulls and skeletons with some wilted flowers placed besides them.
Though police remain tight-lipped about the case, they suspect that it could be a case human sacrifice. They have detained a tantrik and are interrogating him to find if he has any link with the case.
“We have registered a case of unnatural death (UD) and begun investigation. We have sent the skulls and bones recovered from the spot to the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT) department of SCB Medical College in Cuttack,” Nimapara SDPO Subas Mohanty said urging the people not to panic.
Despite his pleadings, however, people of the area were gripped by fear.
“This is an important road as several people and tourists make their way to Puri through this route. The body of an unidentified woman was found from this very spot early in the early morning of Kartika Purnima on November 6. The people of this area are afraid to move out alone on this road following the incident,” said Ranjan Behera, a local resident.
