A joint eviction team consisting of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), General Administration (GA) department of Odisha government, Roads and Buildings (R&B) and Commissionerate Police rushed on Tuesday cleared encroachments on government land from National Highway (NH) -203 to Jharapada Jail Square in the Odisha Capital on Tuesday.
The Executive Engineer of R & B, Division-I and the Assistant Commissioner (Recovery) of BMC had made a requisition last year for eviction of encroachments on government land for widening of the existing road.
More than 20 houses with AC sheet roof, four temporary shops, one auto service station (Thatched), more than 30 boundary walls, 10 extended verandahs, 40 unauthorised hoardings and many more unauthorised constructions were demolished by the squad, said Liasioning officer of BDA Subhransu Sekhar Mohanty.
The eviction drive will also continue for tomorrow. Three excavators have been engaged by the squad for the eviction drive. The demolition drive was supervised and conducted by Enforcement officer of BDA Pramod Kumar Patra, Assistant Commissioner of BMC Mulla Mahammad and OSD, GA Department Bhagban Behera.
Three platoons of police forces were deployed by the commissionerate police at the site to maintain law and order during the demolition drive.
The police forces were guided by Zonal ACP AK Mishra and police officers of Laxmisagar police Station.
