The resignation of Kalpataru Das and Sarojini Hembram, the two Odisha ministers who were elected to the Rajya Sabha earlier this year, from the council of ministers, have been accepted by the Governor on Friday, a Raj Bhawan notification said.
Both ministers had submitted their resignation letters to the Chief Minister earlier on Friday.
They will also resign formally as MLAs, after the Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat reaches the state capital today, sources said.
According to sources, both Das and Ms Hembram will take oath as Rajya Sabha members on April 23.
While Kalpataru Das was a cabinet minister in charge of the Panchayatiraj and Parliamentary Affairs departments, Sarojini Hembram was a minister of state with independent charge of Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts department.
Former minister AU Singhdeo who was also elected to The Rajya Sabha along with Das and Ms Hembram has already resigned from that position to contest the Assembly elections.
There would be a fresh election for the vacant Rajya Sabha seat notification for which would be announced later, sources said.
